Rafael Nadal Vs Novak Djokovic Contact lens problems ATP Finals Masters London 2010 Group A || 7-5...

The problems which Novak Djokovic had with his eyesight in his match against Rafael Nadal at the ATP Finals Masters in London could have been avoided.

It looks like he probably had some dust under his contact lenses which was irritating his eye. This can be very painful and even very dangerous if this scratch gets infected.

Most professional sports people choose daytime contact lenses to improve their eyesight as up until recently the only alternative to these apart from glasses was laser eye surgery. Whilst eye surgery is generally quite safe the potential side effects mean that it is not usually something they would choose until after their professional career is over.

That is why overnight contact lenses are a major advantage for sports people. Correcting your vision while you sleep means perfect vision during the day and the potential for this type of problem at a critical point in a competition is avoided.

In the video you can see how his contact lens problems may have changed the course of the game.

This is a really interesting piece about the hazards of eye laser surgery. Whilst overall laser eye surgery is very successful there are a number of side effects and risks associated with it and these problems are often underplayed - dry eye, night vision etc. A few statistics here make interesting reading and the experiences of two employees of a leading eye surgery clinic are very revealing. http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/health/2003941235_lasik11.html

Eyeing the risks of LASIK eye surgery

This is a really interesting article on the hazards of eye laser surgery. Two people who worked at a high profile laser clinic themselves suffered major side effects and are quoted in it. There are some interesting statistics included and some warning issued by the US food and drugs administration. Very enlightening reading for anyone considering eye laser surgery. http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/health/2003941235_lasik11.html

Ortho k wearer blog

Here is a link to a blog of someone who has just had Orthok lenses fitted who is very positive. "I've been driving to work all week without my glasses, something that feels deeply wrong and I still go to take them off every time I stop the car. Reading signs in shops, and being able to make out people in the street is also a bit of a revelation! I have now lost my excuse for walking straight past people I know though, hmmm."

Childrens vision problems and computer use

Children may suffer from computer vision problems as a result spending too much time at the computer screen. This is a new phenomenon and whilst there is no hard scientific evidence as yet anecdotally optometrist a reporting that shortsightedness is starting at a younger age.

Children and Glasses

Fox News reported yesterday on a recent study funded by Johnson and Johnson which not surprisingly concluded that children do better at sport and have a higher self perception if they wear contact lenses as opposed to glasses.

At the Bejing Olympics - Korean bronze medallist - Jeong Gyeongmi fought almost blind when one of her contact lenses fell out during her quarter final bout. If she had overnight vision correction lenses this would not have happened - she wouldn't have been wearing any.
